The Morgan State Lady Bears took both games of a MEAC doubleheader from the UMES softball team Thursday afternoon at Hawks Field by scores of 11-3 and 7-0. The Hawks (4-37, 3-17 MEAC) have now lost eight straight contests. The Morgan State bats enjoyed their most productive offensive day of the season, combining for 18 runs and 31 total hits off Hawks starter Christina Mason. The Bears (15-23, 10-8 MEAC) received strong pitching efforts from Grace Glenn and Keyana Smith in getting the team's first doubleheader sweep in a month. In game one MSU started the scoring in the 1st inning, when outfielder Shena Gunnell-Clark drove in Smith with the first run of the game. Senior catcher Aubrey Love followed with a 2-RBI single to help MSU grab the early 3-0 lead. MSU would add a run in the 3rd and two more in the 4th inning to build the lead to 6-0. UMES responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th, as Jen Wilson blasted a 3-run home run to cut the Morgan lead to 6-3. But Morgan would put the game away with 5 runs on 6 hits in the top of the fifth inning. In game two the Lady Bears got a stellar pitching performance from Keyana Smith, who shutout the Hawks on just four hits. The Morgan bats also made some noise in game two, pounding out 14 hits on their way to the 7-0 win.
