Jenille Edwards had three hits in the doubleheader loss to Norfolk State

NORFOLK, VA. - The UMES softball team ended their season Sunday with a pair of losses to Norfolk State. The Spartans pounded out 28 hits and 32 runs in a 14-4, 14-0 sweep of the Lady Hawks at the NSU Softball Field.

Allison Greene led NSU (21-31) with a 5-for-8 outing with four runs and three RBI in the two games. UMES (5-42) was led by Jenille Edwards, who went 2-for-2 and scored twice for the maroon and gray in game one.

The Spartans scored all their game one runs in the first three innings and batted around in their first two times to bat. Hitomi Greene went 3-for-4 and Sharpley 3-for-3 with two RBI in game one, while Micki Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Weidner and Leekycia Brown also had two hits each in the opener.

In game two, Brown (6-10) pitched a three-hit shutout and fanned three. She also had two hits and scored twice.

The Spartans again tallied 14 runs in their first three innings. They sent at least nine batters to the plate in each of the first three innings.

Greene went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI in the nightcap. She scored six runs in the doubleheader.

Edwards was 1-for-2 in the second game for UMES.
