PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's softball coach Sam Douglas released the 2010 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The schedule includes 18 games at Lady Hawks Field and five tournaments (including the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament). Overall, the Lady Hawks will play in over 50 games this upcoming season. UMES begins the season with two tournaments in February. The Tiny Laster Tournament (Feb. 13-14) will be held in Lithonia, Ga. and features Grambling State, North Carolina A&T, Alabama A&M and Winston-Salem State. The Lady Hawks meet up again with N.C. A&T from Feb. 26-28 during the N.C. A&T Tournament, held in Greensboro, N.C. Other teams participating include Coppin State and Appalachian State. The team then returns home to Lady Hawks Field to take on Mt. St. Mary's in a doubleheader on March 3 and then host Coppin State on March 6-7. Spring break will be spent in the Carolinas, with the Winthrop Tournament (March 13-14), held in Rock Hill, S.C. and contests against North Carolina-Wilmington (March 16), North Carolina Central (March 17), College of Charleston (March 18) and South Carolina State (March 20). UMES travels to the Delaware State Tournament on March 27-28 before conference play begins April 2-3 with a three-game slate against Hampton University in Hampton, Va. The Lady Hawks return to Dover, Del. and close out their road schedule April 10-11 for contests against the Lady Hornets. Conference play continues as UMES resumes their home portion of the schedule with games against Morgan State (April 17-18), Coppin State (May 1-2) and Howard University (May 8-9). The MEAC Tournament, held in Ormond Beach, Fla., is slated from May 6-8.
