UMES HOST RHODE ISLAND IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Tomorrow (03/12), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team host the University of Rhode Island in a non-conference doubleheader at Lady Hawks Field. First-pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. (EST)
The Lady Hawks took one-out-of-four from Maryland Baltimore-County (UMBC) as the Retrievers won the regular season-series, 3-1. Last Saturday (03/08), the softball team fell in their home opener to UMBC, 7-4, and, 13-0, respectively. The next day (03/09), UMES bounced back to split with the Retrievers by taking the first game, 4-3, but falling in the second, 3-2.
Last Saturday, Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.), Chelsea Alston (Matawan, N.J.), and Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) each recorded two hits in the first game. The next day, despite receiving a no decision, Abria Tinsley (Sewell, N.J.) set the tone for UMES in the first game as she pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and struck out three Retrievers. Kaitlyn Hitch (Delmar, Del.) earned the win in relief.
Prior to their doubleheader against UMES, Rhode Island travels to Catonsville, Md. to face UMBC in a doubleheader. Entering today, the Rams come in 1-8 overall, including winless on the road (0-4). Jocelyn Mattison leads the team as she is the only Rams player hitting over .300 so far this season (.318). Before the season, Rhode Island was predicted to finish tenth in the Atlantic-10 conference.
Maryland Eastern Shore begins a six-day road trip down in Durham, N.C. where they will face the Eagles of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in a four-game series. Click Here for times.
