March 14, 2005 BALTIMORE, MD - UMBC recently announced the 2005 Spring Classic All-Tournament team. UMES was represented by sophomore pitcher Kristen Greenwood (Bel Air, MD/Catawba College), who helped the Lady Hawks to a 6-0 victory over St. Francis NY on March 11. Greenwood pitched five scoreless innings in the victory over the Terriers, holding St. Francis to one hit while striking out two batters. The transfer from Catawba College also tallied one putout and one assist. The following is the Official Release from the UMBC Media Relations Office. The All-Tournament team for the Third Annual UMBC Softball Spring Classic has been announced. Spring Classic champion Delaware State and runner-up UMBC each named four to the team, Niagara had two, and St. Francis (NY), St. Francis (PA), and Maryland-Eastern Shore all had one player. UMBC senior Kristie Pickeral (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) and sophomore Reilly Ward (Olney, Md./Sherwood) were named Co-Tournament MVP's, while Delaware State's Jessica Murray was named Championship MVP. Both Pickeral and Ward went 7-for-14 for the weekend. Pickeral had seven RBI's, including five from a 3-for-4 performance against St. Francis (PA), where she hit two homeruns. Meanwhile, Ward had five RBI's, all of which came on the second day as she hit a homerun against St. Francis (PA), and two more against Maryland-Eastern Shore in the following game. Murray was credited with the win in the championship match, as she pitched a complete game, while blasting a solo homerun, and knocking in the winning run with a leadoff double in the eight inning. Also making the team for host UMBC were freshmen Dana Shepherd (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Kali Shirk (North Wales, Pa./North Penn). Shepherd went 5-for-14 on the weekend with 6 runs batted in, while Shirk went 5-for-15 as she extended her hit streak to 16 games on the season.
