LADY HAWKS LOOK TO REMAIN HOT VERSUS COPPIN STATE

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – This weekend (03/29-03/30), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team looks to remain hot in conference play as they travel to Baltimore to face Coppin State University (CSU) at Coppin State Softball Complex.
The three-game series begins Saturday (03/29) in a doubleheader, followed by a single seven-inning contest on Sunday (03/30). Saturday’s game-times are slated for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (EST), respectively. Sunday’s first-pitch is booked for noon (EST).
Last weekend (03/22-03/23), the Lady Hawks swept Howard University in a three-game series at Lady Hawks Field. After their six-day road trip, Maryland Eastern Shore returned home and won both conference home openers against the Lady Bison, 6-3 and 7-2, respectively. The next day (03/23), UMES wrapped-up the weekend with a season-series sweep over Howard after taking the third game, 9-4.
In Game One, four Lady Hawks registered multi-hits as Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.) went 2-of-3, including two doubles, while Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.), and Morgan King (Danville, Ill.) also notched two hits in the win.
In Game Two, Maryland Eastern Shore scored seven runs on eight hits, including multi-hit games from Anderson, Hitch, and Alexis Hudson (Laurel, Del.). Freshman Kelly Cullen (Fruitland, Md.) picked up her third win on the season after pitching a complete game. Cullen went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out one Lady Bison.
In Game Three, Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) posted two RBIs while Abria Tinsley (Sewell, N.J.) picked up her first-career win after pitching three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. Tinsley also struck out three Lady Bison in the victory.
Entering this weekend’s match-up, the Eagles come in 3-11 overall (0-3 MEAC), including being swept by Norfolk State University (NSU) last weekend in Norfolk, Va. As a team, CSU is hitting .288, led by Candice Van Horn and Samantha Denlinger. Van Horn leads the Eagles in multiple categories, including batting average (.478), home runs (6), and RBIs (14). Denlinger also bats over .400 (.414) while being second on the team in slugging percentage (.586) and on-base percentage (.433).
For UMES, they look to stay hot on the road as the Lady Hawks enter 6-24 (3-0 MEAC) on the season, including last weekend’s sweep over Howard. This season, King has amassed a .378 batting average while leading the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (21). Emily Diseroad (Manchester Valley, Md.), who hits primarily in the clean-up spot, bats .314 with 12 runs driven in. Other notable Hawks includes Chelsea Alston (Matawan, N.J.) as she leads the team in stolen bases (14).
On Wednesday (04/02), UMES travels to Newark, Del. to square off against the University of Delaware in non-conference action. The match-up is a doubleheader, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (EST), respectively.
