PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Tomorrow (04/22), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team travels to Fairfax, Va. to face the Patriots of George Mason University in their final non-conference doubleheader of the season. First-pitches are set for 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. (EST), respectively.

LAST TIMEOUT

Last week (04/18-04/19), UMES was swept by Hampton University, 3-0. Maryland Eastern Shore fell in last Friday’s (04/18) doubleheader, 7-0 and 4-2, respectively, as both contests were televised on ESPNU. The next day (04/19), the Lady Hawks comeback came up short as they lost, 9-7.

TOP PERFORMERS

In Game One, freshman Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.) recorded the lone hit for the Lady Hawks while sophomore Kaitlyn Hitch (Delmar, Del.) tossed 4.2 innings and allowed one earned run on three hits in the loss.

In Game Two, Schnyder went a perfect 2-for-2 with a RBI whereas Hitch and freshman Kelly Cullen (Fruitland, Md.) each threw three innings in a losing effort.

In Game Three, sophomore Emily Diseroad (Manchester Valley, Md.) went 2-of-3 with three RBIs while Schnyder batted in the six spot for the Lady Hawks and recorded two singles in the loss.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Entering Wednesday’s non-conference doubleheader, the Patriots come in 19-16 overall with a 12-6 home record. Junior Brooke Blankenship and sophomore Julie Czarnecki are among the top performers for the Patriots. Blankenship, a 2013-14 College Sports Madness A-10 All-Conference selection, leads the squad in most offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.643), on-base percentage (.462), and RBIs (38).  Czarnecki, also a 2013-14 College Sports Madness A-10 All-Conference honoree, has played in 32 games (30 starts) with 36 total hits on the season.

For Maryland Eastern Shore, they enter 7-33 overall and looking to pick-up their first road victory on the season. Junior Morgan King (Danville, Ill.) leads the club in batting average (.319), slugging percentage (.504), and RBIs (22). Diseroad is second on the team in batting average, just under .300 (.299) while leading the team in on-base percentage (.387). Senior Chelsea Alston (Matawan, N.J.) leads-off for the Lady Hawks with a .280 batting average and leads the squad in triples (5) and stolen bases (15) this season.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

This weekend (04/26-04/27), UMES heads to Baltimore to square off against the Lady Bears of Morgan State University (MSU) in a crucial three-game series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (EST), respectively. Sunday’s single seven-inning contest will take place at noon (EST).
