PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball senior Carmen Frazier (Montgomery Village, Md.) was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team, the announcement came yesterday afternoon. This is the first award garnered by Frazier this season.

“I am very proud of Carmen (Frazier),” said UMES Softball head coach Sam Douglas. “Carmen is the true definition of a student-athlete and her dedication on the field and in the classroom was recognized.”

This season, the Montgomery Village-native has competed in 17 contests with six starts while tallying two hits and a RBI. Defensively, Frazier has amassed a team-leading 1.000 field percentage, including 13 putouts and an assist. Academically, the English major has accumulated a 3.57 grade-point-average (GPA) during her tenure.

Frazier and Delaware State University’s Nicole Gazzola were the lone Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) representatives to be recognized for this honor. Other notable local honorees included Salisbury University’s junior pitcher Rachel Johnson and sophomore designated player Paige Knussman. For the complete list from all districts, Click Here.

The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

This weekend (05/03-05/04), Frazier and the Lady Hawks face their rt. 13 rival, Gazzola and the Lady Hornets of Delaware State, in a three-game series at Hawks Field. Saturday’s doubleheader begins 1:00 p.m. (EST) whereas Sunday’s single seven-inning contest takes place at noon (EST).


 

 

On Sunday (05/04), Frazier along with fellow seniors Chelsea Alston (Matawan, N.J.) and Cherokee Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) will be recognized for UMES Senior Day.
