2011 ECAC Division I Softball All-Stars

CENTREVILLE, Mass. -- University of Maryland Eastern Shore catcher Charlise Castro has been named to the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Softball All-Stars Second Team, the conference has announced.

The selections were voted on by the Division I softball coaches belonging to the ECAC, which composes of 88 members in the Mid-Atlantic and New England area.

Castro (Saugerties, N.Y.) in her freshman season led the Hawks in nearly all offensive categories, including batting average (.409), runs (32), doubles (12), home runs (13), runs batted in (42), slugging percentage (.810), walks (18), on-base percentage (.472) and sacrifice flies (4).

She ranked nationally among some of the top in the NCAA. Her slugging percentage ranked 15th in Division I plus was 42nd in home runs per game with .28.

Castro adds to her awards from the season, including being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and first team All-MEAC.

The MEAC is represented by two players on the ECAC Division I All-Stars. Along with Castro, outfielder Jordan Reid of Delaware State was also named to the second team.
