PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – After taking early leads in last weekend’s contests versus Frederick Community College (CC), the Lady Hawks found themselves in an early deficit in both contests against Delaware Tech (Del Tech) CC-Stanton, but rallied in both games to complete the sweep. The Lady Hawks defeated Del Tech, 15-5 and 12-8, respectively. The team had several solid performances in the wins led by Sophomores Trenece Nash, Abria Tinsley, and Senior Carmen Frazier.

In game one, the team trailed 2-0, but would respond by tying the game after one inning of play. Sophomores Vanessa Gomez and Morgan King would score the first two runs for the Lady Hawks. Afterwards, the team would score seven unanswered runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings collectively to make the score 9-3 after five innings. Del Tech would respond by scoring three runs in the sixth and cut into the Hawk’s lead, 9-5, but the Lady Hawks would respond by scoring six runs in the sixth inning to end the game, 15-5.

Four Hawks had multiple hits in the contest. Senior Chelsea Alston had two hits including a triple in the fourth inning. Alston was also one of six runs to score in the sixth inning as well. Gomez, Tinsley, and Frazier each had three hits in the game. Gomez finished with three hits along with two stolen bases and a run scored while Tinsley went 3-3 with three runs scored, a RBI, and two triples in the fourth and fifth innings. Frazier came off the bench to go 3-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.


 

 

In game two, both teams were scoreless after two innings. Del Tech would deliver the first blow by scoring a run in the third, but the team would score a run of their own to tie the game, 1-1, after three innings. Del Tech would respond by scoring two runs in the fourth inning to regain the lead, 3-1. After going scoreless in the fourth, the Hawk’s bats would awaken to score five runs in the fifth led by Junior Cherokee Williams’ walk. Williams and four more Hawks would score in the inning to make the score, 6-3. Despite the big inning from the Hawks, Del Tech would answer with five runs of their own to reclaim the lead, 8-6. In the sixth inning, the team would take a 9-8 lead with one out and two runners on base; Nash would deliver the knockout blow by delivering a three-run shot over the leftfield wall to seal the game and comeback, 12-8.

Three Hawks would have a multi-hits in the contest (King, Nash, & Tinsley). King finished 2-4 with two runs scored while Tinsley went 2-3 with two doubles. Nash had two hits including a double and home run in the fifth and six innings, respectively. Nash also had three RBIs and scored twice in the victory.

After today’s victories, the Lady Hawks are 4-0 in fall ball play while scoring 11+ runs in each of the four victories. Two weeks from today, the Lady Hawks will host back-to-back doubleheaders against Del Tech CC-Georgetown (Oct. 5th) and Chesapeake CC (Oct. 6th). First pitches for both contests are 1:00pm.
