In 2011, Fowler led each the men's and women's tennis team to a pair of wins on the season. The men's side earned the 4-seed in the MEAC Tournament, marking the first time since 2006 that the Hawks made the conference tournament.

After finishing the 2009-10 season as the interim head coach, Harold Fowler got the interim tag removed and became UMES's tennis head coach.

He had been the assistant coach for the previous two seasons and is a former player for the Hawks from 2004-08. He played anywhere between first and sixth singles and first and third doubles throughout his career. Fowler was a four-year starter and letterwinner for the Hawks.

Fowler graduated from UMES with a major in aviation science.
