PRINCESS ANNE, Md.  - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's tennis teams kicked off their 2012 seasons on Saturday afternoon, as the Hawks were swept in a double-header by St. Francis (Pa) University. The women fell 6-1 to St. Francis, while the men were unable to meet the minimum number of participants and had to forfeit their match.

The women's team saw senior captain Solana McMillan (Neptune, N.J.) open up the scoring with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 1 singles play. McMillan's performance was the lone highlight of the day for the women as the squad went on to drop its other four singles and two doubles matches.

The forfeit by the men saw St. Francis claim a 7-0 victory. Despite the forfeit, two men played the first collegiate matches of their careers in freshman Wayne Heath and Christopher Charles. The women had one player make their debut in freshman Raveena Sharma.

The teams will take two weeks off before they travel to Salisbury, Md., to take on Towson University on Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m.
