EASTOn, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis team got their season started under first year Head Coach Wossen Makonnen on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the season started with a 7-0 loss to Loyola College (Md.) (2-1).

UMES (0-1) took to the courts in Easton, Md., utilizing indoor facilities to stay out of the blistering cold of Princess Anne. Number one player Nadia Flores Hernandez fell to Caitlyn Day 0-6, 0-6. Aissatou Ba also fell at #2 singles by the same score. Fatoumata Ba played #3 singles and fell 1-6, 0-6 while Haavesha Sawyer fell at #4 singles 1-6, 1-6. Bolanie Abioye fell at #5 singles 0-6, 1-6.

In doubles action Flores Hernandez and Aissatou Ba fell to Day and Stephanie Dunn 1-8.

The Hawks now head to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-up in Altamonte Springs, Fla, March 22-25.
