Final Stats

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Freshman Jasmine Jennings (Halifax, Va.) posted her first victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles, but it was not enough as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to Wesley on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Hawks were competitive throughout and nearly saw two other women post their first victories of the year.

UMES (0-8) was led by Jennings, but also saw senior Valentina Collazos (Cali, Colombia) and senior Kenesha Abrams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) play fantastic in singles play. Collazos opened with a 6-4 at No. 4 singles, before she lost the next set, 6-2. In the tie-breaker, Collazos fell just short after her opponent won 10-6. Much like Collazos, Abrams won the first set, but would lose in the second and third frames at No. 3.

Also competing in singles play was freshman Reine Fowajuh (Wilmington, Del.), who lost 6-2, 6-1 at top singles.

Fowajuh teamed up with Jennings and the pair lost 8-5 at first doubles. The action was rounded out on the day at No. 2 doubles, where Collazos and Abrams fell, 8-3.

The women look to get in the win column when they travel to the Naval Academy on Wednesday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
