April 5, 2007 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Aissatou Ba, sister Fatoumata Ba and Tonaio Swangin all picked up their first win of the year as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) fell to rival Delaware State University (DSU) in women's tennis, 4-3. Aissatou Ba got her win in a thriller at #2 singles topping Kelly Carrigan 7-6, 5-7, 6-3. Fatoumata Ba won at #3 singles 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over Stephanie Peels. Dorsey got her win in another close match at #6 singles over Yyone Dennis, 7-5, 5-7, 11-9. DSU won the other singles matches. Nadia Flores Hernandez fell at #1 singles to Julieta Yung, 6-3, 7-6 while Bolanle Abioye fell at #5 singles 6-2, 1-6, 4-6 to Shadara Edmond and Haaveshe Sawyer fell 6-2, 6-1 to Anikka Ahmen at #4 singles. Either of those matches could have given the Hawks the win. It wasn't to be. The Hornets captured the doubles point winning two out of the three matches. Abioye and Swangin won their contest over Edmond and Dennis, 8-3. The other two teams fell by narrow margins. Flores Hernandez and Aissatou Ba fell 8-6 to Yung and Carrigan while Fatoumata Ba and Sawyer fell 8-5. The Hawks head to Morgan State on the ninth of April for a conference match trying to build on the momentum and pick up a MEAC win.
