PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Lady Hawk volleyball squad dropped the first match of the La Salle Tournament this afternoon, falling 3-0 (30-16, 30-21, 30-26) to Rider at Tom Gola Arena.

Melanie Durimel (Neuilly sur Marne, France/Univ. de Marne La Vallee) led UMES with nine kills while Maja Baltic (Belgrade, Serbia/KBG) and Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel/Kiriat Haim H.S.) each chipped in with five kills apiece.

Rozner also contributed a double-double of 19 set assists and 13 digs while Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass H.S.) led the squad with 21 digs. The maroon and gray got a good defensive outing from Adora Luster (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park H.S.) who added four block assists.

Katrina Stehle had a match-high 14 kills for the Broncs while Megan Smith chipped in with 11.

UMES (3-2) fell behind early in games one and three but took their first lead of the match in game two. That lead was short lived, however, as Rider tied the score at 5-5 and opened a lead midway through the game.

The team resumes play tonight in a 9 p.m. match with Bucknell.
