Sept. 14, 2005 Hampton, Va. - Senior Captain Eriel Jeffery (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) had a team high nine kills as UMES dropped their first conference match on Tuesday, losing to Hampton 3-0 (30-21, 30-26, 30-18) in a road contest. The Lady Hawks (1-5, 0-1 MEAC) closed within five points of the lead in game two, as Jeffery posted five consecutive kills for the maroon and grey to bring the score to 26-21. But UMES was not able to put the game away as the Pirate service game was too much for the Lady Hawks to overcome. Freshmen Adora Luster (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park H.S.) and Chanita Wesley (Minneapolis, Minn./Breck H.S.) added three kills each, while junior Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass H.S.) had a game high 17 digs. Maja Baltic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro/KGB)chipped in with a team high three aces. Chavanca Hoskins had 12 kills to lead Hampton, while Sydnee Kell added a double double of 28 assists and 11 digs. UMES will next play their next three matches on the road, participating in the James Madison Tournament on Sept. 16-17.
