PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Volleyball team kicked-off the `Hawk Hysteria' event with a win, defeating conference opponent Hampton 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-20) to move to 18-3 on the season and 7-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Hawks got the evening off to a good start as UMES hosted a Midnight Madness style event immediately after the match.

Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.) was the quiet star, not leading any category but posting her third triple double of the season with ten kills, ten assists and 12 digs. The reigning three-time MEAC player of the week, Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md./Univ. of Albany) wasn't a slouch herself as she posted a match high 19 kills and added seven digs and an assist.

Holiday Eller (Minnetonka, Minn./ St. Benilde-St. Margaret's H.S.) was the only other player in the match with double digit kills, she added ten. Defensively Leah Amundson (Tucson, Ariz./Arizona Western C.C.) added 11 digs, a team high, and Christina Estebane' (El Paso, Texas/Midland Coll.) had ten digs. Estebane' added 34 assists and a pair of kills.

Hampton was led by Aaryn Harrison with nine kills while Alyssa Jackson had a match high 14 digs.

UMES gave away 26 points on their own errors in the match but still hit .296 as a team to the Pirates' .094. the number one team in the nation for aces per game struggled, as the Hawks had just eight, three from Woodward.

The win is the Hawks 16th in a row. They look to make it 17 when they host Coppin State on October 18th at 6:00 pm.
