Oct. 17, 2003 Princess Anne, MD - The UMES volleyball team defeated Bethune-Cookman College in three straight games Friday by scores of 30-27, 30-16 and 30-28. This conference win increases the Hawks record to 18-9 overall, and 6-1 in the MEAC. Sophmore Jana Milin led the team with 25 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Sanda Dzile notched 31 assists for the Hawks. "I'm proud of the ladies tonight," said coach Toby Rens, "they rebounded very well after a tough loss to a good team yesterday to get the victory against Bethune-Cookman." Melissa Sanders notched 12 kills for Wildcats, while Megan Myers had 34 assists.
The Hawks will be on the road on October 21st in Annapolis, MD to challenge the United States Naval Academy. UMES returns to action at Tawes Gymnasium in two weeks, with a match against North Carolina A&T Thursday October 30th at 6:00 p.m, followed by a duel with South Carolina State University October 31st at 6:00 p.m. Admission to all Hawk home matches are free to the public.
