PRINCESS ANNE, MD - With two seniors playing in their final home game, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) volleyball team concluded its home schedule with a 3-1 (30-18, 25-30, 20-30, 24-30) loss to the visiting Hampton Lady Pirates. Senior Nicole Wilson (Bronx, N.Y.) had a career night as she finished with a team high 14 kills.
The night was all Wilson as she hit .355 to lead the offensive charge for the Lady Hawks. Also playing in her final home game was senior captain Eriel Jeffery (Highland, Calif.). Jeffery recorded nine kills and eight digs in her final home contest. Junior Melanie Durimel (Neuilly sur Marne, France) finished with 12 kills and eight digs, while libero Stephanie Braxton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) added a match high 24 digs on the defensive end. Freshman Yael Rozner (Haifa, Israel) tallied 33 assists in the loss. Hampton (17-13) was led by Chavanca Hoskins' double-double of 20 kills and 17 digs. Morgan Williams chipped in with a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs. The Lady Hawks hit .378 in the first game as they took the set 30-18, but the maroon and gray could not rebound and went on to drop the next three games, sealing the match victory for the Lady Pirates.
UMES (5-22) is off until Oct. 28, next playing at Delaware State in a 7 p.m. non-conference decision.
