Hampton, Va. - The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore moved past the .500 mark on the season with a 3-0 defeat of Hampton University on Thursday night at Holland Hall in Hampton, Virginia.

UMES took the first game with a hard-fought 30-21 margin. Jana Milin and Mandie Dever set the pace for the night with kills from the outside and blocks at the net to open things up. Hampton fought strong behind Sydnee Keel and Chavanca "CeCe" Hoskins, but the Lady Hawks of UMES (15-14, 7-2 MEAC) stuck with it in order to capture the win.

The second game saw much of the same, added Mamie Lewis with kills and thrills for the Lady Hawks. HU (6-24, 2-8 MEAC) used defense and service aces from senior Alexis Avery in order to keep things close, but UMES closed out the game with a 30-21 advantage.

In the third and decisive game, HU got down big early-on, but rallied late to make things interesting with a 30-26 score in favor of the Lady Hawks. The girls from Princess Anne had to hold off some late errors and HU service aces from Hoskins in order to preserve the match victory.

Paving the way for the Lady Pirates on the night was Hoskins with her match-high 12 kills and eight digs. Behind her was Keel with seven kills and 14 assists. As for UMES, they were led on the night by Lewis with nine kills and three service aces. Following up her teammate was Dever with eight kills and three blocks (two solo).

The next match for the Lady Pirates will not take place until next Friday evening (Nov. 5) on a Hampton University Homecoming weekend as they host Coppin State at Holland Hall. The Lady Hawks of UMES will next take to flight against Morgan State on November 4 at home.
