HAMPTON, Va. - Hawk Volleyball rolled to a 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-22) win over the host Hampton Pirates and with in finished their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season with a perfect 10-0 mark. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) also holds the longest winning streak in the nation, currently at 19 consecutive matches. UMES has never gone undefeated in MEAC play before this season. The Hawks (21-3, 10-0 MEAC) have locked the number one seed form the Northern Division, securing a match-up at the MEAC Tournament with the Southern Division's #4 seed. A path they hope will lead them back to the MEAC finals, somewhere they haven't been since 2004. UMES took the easy win, getting 12 kills from Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md./Univ. at Albany) and a dozen digs from Leah Amundson (Tuscon, Ariz./Western Arizona C.C.) No one else was in double digits for the Hawks. Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.) and Holiday Eller (Minnetonka, Minn./St. Benilde-St. Margaret's H.S.) each had nine kills. Woodward also recorded four service aces. Hampton (10-17, 2-7 MEAC) was led by Aaryn Harrison who had a dozen kills of her own and Alyssa Jackson who had a match-high 21 digs. UMES finishes out the regular season on Friday night, November 2 when they host North Carolina Central University on senior night, looking for their 20th consecutive win.
