PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Senior Jana Milin recorded 32 kills as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) dropped a close match to George Washington University 30-28, 29-31, 30-28, 30-27.

Over the four games, UMES (16-15) claimed the largest lead when they went up six points in the third game, a game then ended up dropping, 30-28. Most of the time the teams never gained a lead larger than three points as there was countless lead changes.

In the first game Milin led the way with 11 kills and followed that game with another 11 kills in the second. The senior outside hitter recorded only 4 kills in the third game and closed out the match strong with another 6 kills in the final game for her third 30-kill match of the season. She also chipped in 11 digs and three service aces.

Freshman Kate Smith had a match-high 58 assists and the Hawks totaled 75 kills compared to George Washington's 56. However the match evened out as UMES committed 34 attacking errors and 15 service errors, as GWU totaled only 23 attack errors and 8 service errors.

Senior Aja Smith recorded the Hawks other double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. UMES had two others, junior Mandie Dever and senior Mamie Lewis, reach double-digit kills with 14 and 10 respectively. Senior Marlee Johnson tied Aja Smith with a team-high 14 digs.

Leading the attack for George Washington (7-19) was Janine Brown, who totaled 18 kills to go with nine digs. Shannon Parks chipped in 13 kills and Kaimana Lee had 49 assists.

 

 

UMES will return to action this Friday, November 12 as they close out the regular season when they host Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Coppin State for SENIOR NIGHT. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Tawes Gym.
