Nov. 15, 2003 Washington, D.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Volleyball Team (24-11) finished their season with a loss to American University (19-9) in a non-conference match in Bender Arena by scores 24-30, 21-30 and 23-30. While this was their last regular season match the Hawks will prepare for the upcoming MEAC Tournament to be played Friday and Saturday, the 21 and 22 of November in Greensboro, NC. The Hawks will enter the tournament the number two seed, finishing first in the MEAC Northern Division and an overall conference record of 9-1. That one loss coming to Florida A & M University. Despite the loss to American, Jana Milin totaled a double-double. She notched 19 kills and 15 digs. Aja Smith had 14 digs and seven kills while Sanda Dzile had 10 digs and 25 assists. "Even though we lost the last match of the season, I am proud of the growth and maturity of the ladies since the first match," said Coach Toby Rens. "I'm really looking forward to the post season tournament. I think our last two matches especially, will help us prepare for the tournament," he added.
The Eagles were led by Karla Kucerkova who notched 20 kills, five digs and three block assists. Her teammates Cutrina Biddulph and Erin Allgaier each had 10 kills.
