GREENSBORO, NC - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) volleyball team lost to the Florida A&M Rattlers 0-3 (19-30, 15-30, 20-30) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship game on Saturday, November 20.

Jana Milin (Pula, Croatia/University of Economy), in her last game at UMES, led the Hawks with 16 digs and 13 kills. Senior Aja Smith (Tampa, FL/Indian River CC), also finishing her Hawk career, tallied five digs and three kills, while Eriel Jeffery (Highland, CA/Redlands East Valley) finished with five kills. Milin and Smith were both named to the All Tournament Team.

"Making it to the finals was a goal we set for ourselves", said UMES head coach Alex Temkin. "I think we played better against Florida A&M now than at the MEAC Roundup, and that shows how we are maturing as a team."

The Hawks (19-16) played without senior middle blocker Mamie Lewis (Tallahassee, FL/Indian River CC), who sprained her knee in UMES' semifinal win over Morgan State on Friday, November 19.

"The injury to Mamie hurt us", said Milin. "We really missed her out there."

This is the second consecutive year that UMES has finished as runners up in the MEAC Championship. The match was the last for five members of the squad: Milin, Smith, Lewis, Candice Ringgold, and Marlee Johnson.
