PRINCESS ANNE, MD - With the completion of the 2004 volleyball season as Stanford University won its fifth national championship, individual honors have been finalized and awarded to players who have had outstanding statistical seasons. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's volleyball program, which finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, is excited to announce that senior Jana Milin (Pula, Croatia/University of Economy) finished the season #1 in the nation with 0.98 service aces per game.

Milin, who over the past two seasons has finished 4th in the nation with 0.88 service aces per game in 2003 and 0.92 service aces per game in 2002, recorded a school-record 116 service aces in 2004, beating her own records of 104 service aces in 2003 and 102 service aces in 2002.

"I am very proud of my accomplishments at UMES," said Milin. "Now I can say that all that hard work was worth it. I am happy, proud, thankful and excited that I can say I am ranked #1 in the nation."

Jana recorded 12 triple-doubles in her career, five in 2004 alone. She also recorded the only triple-double in the nation in 2004 that included service aces as she had 16 kills, 10 assists and 11 service aces against Howard University on September 21, 2004.

In 2002, she also recorded her only quadruple-double of her career in which she had 16 kills, 14 assists, 11 digs, and 10 aces. For all of her achievements in 2004, Jana was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District Volleyball First Team and was named to her third straight MEAC first team.

Milin, who was a two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference player-of-the-year and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rookie-of-the-year, holds almost all of the Lady Hawks volleyball career, single-season, and single-match records. She ranks #1 in nine single-season and #1 in 10 career record categories including kills, service aces, digs and points.

She also holds all of the top 10 single-match spots for kills in a single match, attacks in a single match, kills in a single 3-game match, kills in a single 4-game match, kills in a single 5-game match, attacks in a single 3-game match, attacks in a single 4-game match, and attacks in a single 5-game match.

"When I got to UMES three years ago I really didn't know what kind of volleyball I would be playing in the United States. So I was practicing three times a day and I dedicated every minute of the day to volleyball," said Milin. "I had a great career at UMES and I can tell you that feels great to know that I am among the best players in the history of the University."

"I am also glad that I helped volleyball program because UMES was my home and it will be forever," said Milin. "It seems stupid to say, but UMES was my home away from home. I am thankful that I had a chance to meet such wonderful people who contributed to my achievements."

Milin has graduated from UMES with a degree in General Studies with a concentration in Hotel and Restaurant Management and has moved on to accept a graduate assistantship position at Long Island University under her former UMES volleyball head coach Toby Rens where she will earn her Master's degree and serve as an assistant volleyball coach.

"I was extremely happy at UMES and atmosphere there is amazing," said Milin. "I am very happy about everything I accomplished at UMES and I hope that my records will be broken soon, because that will mean the volleyball program at UMES is playing at a high level."
