June 24, 2004 Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Volleyball Team is proud to announce its 2004 schedule. The schedule will mark the first season under new Head Coach Alex Temkin. "The schedule is a tough one," said Temkin. "I tried hard to make it a very competitive schedule. It is one that will prepare us for NCAA Tournament play. Making the tournament is my main goal here at UMES," he added. The 2004 Hawk Schedule features several major opponents including the University of Michigan, American University, Manhattan, George Mason, Georgetown, Wright State, Houston, and Marquette. All of these teams will be played in tournaments away from Princess Anne. Highlights include the UMES Invitational where the Hawks host Sacred Heart, Youngstown State, Columbia, and Wofford. One other big match for the Hawks will be the return of former Hawk head man Toby Rens as he guides his Long Island University Blackbirds against UMES in the Hawk Challenge, a tournament featuring St. Johns, UNC Asheville, and Niagara on October 1-2. "I am really happy with the schedule," said Temkin. "We play some big time programs and some local and sentimental ones. We get to play Salisbury, who is right down the street and creates some local interest, we play all the usual conference foes, and hopefully wrap-up the season with an NCAA appearance."
