July 21, 2004 Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is proud to announce their latest signee to the Head Coach Alex Temkin's 2004 Volleyball team. Holiday Eller from Minnetonka, MN has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UMES and compete in the upcoming season. Eller, a standout for the Northern Lights Volleyball Club, is a six-foot tall outside hitter who was named All-Conference Honorable Mention her first two years in High School, All-Conference her last two seasons, All-Metro, and a five year letter winner. "She is a legit six footer who has the heart of a champion," said Temkin. "The Northern Lights Club is a great program, she was well trained in her club and high school programs. She should impact our defense significantly." According to Rich Kern's volleyball site, "Holliday Eller has a lot of athletic potential, especially physically. She has excellent training as a middle blocker, as well as an outside hitter and would benefit any program she is accepted at. She will blossom at the collegiate level." Eller is no stranger to competitive sports. Her father is Carl Eller, a standout with the Minnesota Vikings who played on "The Purple People Eaters" defensive line and will be soon inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame with other greats Bob Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, John Elway of the Denver Broncos and Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions. "Her athletic background will help her excel," said Temkin. "She is such a threat in the middle and right side. Holiday is a good jumper and a hard hitter, she will be a great player for UMES."
The addition of Eller gives UMES another tie to the NFL Hall of Fame as alum Art Shell was inducted in 1989 for his contribution with the Raiders.
