Princess Anne, MD -
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) new Head Coach Alex Temkin has completed his signing class with the addition of Mandie Dever a 5'8 outside hitter from Pasco Hernando Community College in Port Richey, FL.
"Mandie is a two-year transfer who is a tremendous leaper that can step right in," said Temkin. "Her previous school finished 9th in the nation. In Florida she played in a division with two current Hawks, Mamie [Lewis] and Aja [Smith]. They have played against each other before and know what kind of style the others play. She will fit right in."
Last season Dever had 507 kills in 996 attempts, averaging 2.61 kills per game and a hitting percentage of .340. Her blocking was also outstanding averaging 1.185 per game, 190 total, and 116 solo blocks, 74 assists, and only 36 errors. She also totaled 63 service aces.
"Mandie is a significant addition to the program. She hits high and hard. She is a complete athlete who plays incredible defense, passes well and will really help our blocking," Temkin added.
Dever is a four time conference player of the game, a region eight all state player, received first team all-conference honors, and was named to several all-tournament teams.
"Mandie is just a great addition to a class that I think will really enrich this program," said Temkin. "We have a couple of young but great setters, some solid blocking talent, and incredible hitters coming in and returning with Aja and Jana Milin. Jana is the two time returning MEAC player of the year so we have some expectations to live up to and to reach my goal of making the NCAA Tournament."
