VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - For the third straight week the hot hitting Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) have captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors. This week the honor goes to Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md./Univ. of Albany) who had now taken the honors twice.

Johnson seemed a clear cut choice for the award as she and her Hawks have won seven straight matches, including three this past weekend where UMES topped Providence, St. Francis (NY) and Sacred Heart to win the Sacred Heart University Invitational. Johnson was named tournament MVP.

Earlier in the week UMES also beat Bucknell University. In four matches combined Johnson totaled an amazing 100 kills and hit .441 on 179 swings. She also added 31 digs and had ten blocks. The 6-3 Sophomore leads the team in kills with 225.

Last week Caylin Woodward took MEAC Player of the Week honors for the Hawks.

UMES travels to Baltimore, MD. tomorrow to play their second MEAC match of the season, this time against Coppin State. The Hawks topped the Eagles 3-0 in the season opener.
