NDIDI IBE EARNS FIRST-EVER MEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Oct. 8, 2012
NORFOLK, Va. -- UMES middle blocker Ndidi Ibe has been honored as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week after a dominant performance against Coppin State on Friday.
This is the first time that Ibe (North Richland Hills, Texas) has earned a conference weekly honor. UMES has earned six MEAC weekly volleyball honors this season, including four Player of the Week awards, more than any other institution. Ibe is the third Hawk to be named Player of the Week along with Saitaua Iosia (Long Beach, Calif.) and Victoria Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Ibe aided UMES in earning a shutout victory over Coppin State to stay undefeated in MEAC competition last Friday. The Hawks share first place in the MEAC Northern Division with Hampton.
The senior hit a stellar .643 against Coppin State in UMES's home opener, finishing with 10 kills with just one error on 14 total attacks. She also led the Hawks with six blocks, matching her season-best in MEAC competition. Ibe had a personal 3-0 run in the second set with a block and two straight kills.
Ibe and the Hawks will play for sole possession of first place in the division when they host Hampton on Friday, October 12th at 7 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center.
