NORFOLK, Va. -- Saitaua Iosia (Long Beach, Calif.) continues to rack up MEAC honors, being named the conference's Player of the Week, the second time in a row, for the period ending October 9th.
This is Iosia's sixth straight weekly conference award, earning four MEAC Rookie of the Week distinctions in addition to her two Player of the Week honors. Of the 14 total volleyball weekly honors given out by the MEAC this season, six have gone to Iosia.
Iosia finished the week with a .453 hitting percentage to lead the Hawks to three conference victories, including two on the road. She combined for 36 kills with just seven errors on 64 total attacks with 25 digs and five services aces.
She hit .650 against Delaware State with 13 kills including no errors in 20 attacks and earned her ninth double-double of the year against Coppin State with 13 kills and as many digs. Iosia was just short of her tenth double-double against Morgan State with 10 kills and nine digs.
No player under Don Metil's tenure at UMES has received six weekly conference awards. Former players Whitney Johnson and Christina Estebané had five Player of the Week awards in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
