GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore(UMES) freshman Kate Smith (Carpentersville, Ill/Dundee Crown H.S.) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week for her play in two UMES victories this past week. This is the second time this season Smith has received this honor.

The Hawks (13-13 overall, 7-2 MEAC) defeated Howard and Delaware State, both in three-games, to clinch the MEAC Northern Division.

Guiding the Hawks to the two victories was Smith who had 78 assists and 11 digs in the two matches. The Lady Hawks had a .324 hitting percentage against Howard as Smith recorded 41 assists in the victory. Against Delaware State, which clinched the Northern Division, Smith had a match-high 37 assists and a team-high seven digs.

UMES will continue to prepare for the MEAC Tournament with two matches this week against Loyola (MD) on Wednesday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m. in Princess Anne and then against Hampton on Thursday, October 28th in Hampton, VA at 6:00 p.m.
