PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Thonya Joseph (Bridgetown, Barbados) has been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 25.

Joseph, a middle blocker on the women's volleyball team, helped the Hawks (17-6, 6-0) to straight-set victories over Howard and Morgan State last week to stay unbeaten in MEAC play.

Joseph recorded 11 kills, four block assists, two digs and a team-high .562 hitting percentage in the two matches. Joseph's best individual performance came against Howard on Oct. 23 when she tallied six kills on seven total attacks (.857) with two block assists and one dig.

UMES is back in action at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center Friday at 7 p.m. against Delaware State.
