PRINCESS ANNE, Md.--Senior Jingqiao Li (Beijing, China) and Freshman Sara Pelayo (District Federal, Mexico) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on November 5th. Both athletes are receiving the honor for the first time this year.

Li contributed two fantastic performances in her two volleyball matches this week. Against Morgan State on November 3rd, Li recorded a season high 39 digs over four sets. She added another 13 digs in last Sunday's match against Coppin State. Overall, Li has tallied 351 digs over her senior campaign, by far the best on her team in that category.

Pelayo bowled six games for the Hawks at the New Jersey Jamboree hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University last weekend, the most of any bowler on her team. Those six games were good for a 193 average score with a high of 216, as UMES went 9-3 over 12 games during the weekend.

Li and the rest of the Hawk volleyball squad will conclude their season with home matches against Norfolk State (Nov. 7th) and Hampton (Nov. 10th). Pelayo and her fellow Hawk bowlers will face off against other MEAC teams in Dover on Saturday.
