Greensboro, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Women's Volleyball got some well-deserved awards to start this week. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) selected junior outside hitter Jana Milin (Pula, Croatia/Univ. of Economy) and freshman setter Kate Smith (Carpentersville Ill./Dundee Crown H.S.) as MEAC Player and Rookie of the Week respectively.

Milin, coming off her nod as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District II Regional First Team Performer was selected for the third time this season for her outstanding week. Milin totaled her fifth triple double of the year with a win over Coppin State last Friday and joined the thirty kill-club for the third time this season when she tallied 32 kills in a loss to George Washington earlier in the week. She tallied 21 digs in the seven games and 51 kills.

Smith racked up her fourth MEAC Rookie of the Week title when she poured in 87 assists and ten digs in the same two matches last week. She also added nine kills.

UMES leaves Wednesday afternoon to travel to Greensboro, N.C. where they enter the MEAC Tournament as the #2 seed behind twenty-fourth ranked Florida A & M. The Hawks have a bye into the quarterfinals where they will face the second lowest surviving seed from round one on Friday the 19th at 10:00 a.m.
