SIX UMES PLAYERS EARN MEAC VOLLEYBALL ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced that six University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball student-athletes have been honored as 2012 MEAC Volleyball All-Academic selections.
Jingqiao Li (Beijing, China) and Victoria Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) were named to the team for the second straight season. Corey Haynes (Falls Church, Va.), Ndidi Ibe (North Richland Hills, Texas), Emily Shannon (Cross Junction, Va.) and Jessie Vicic (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) also were recognized for the first time as honorees.
To qualify, student-athletes must be on sophomore, junior or senior academic standing, hold a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be enrolled in the MEAC institution at least one full year.
"I applaud our volleyball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2011-12 academic school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas said in the MEAC press release. "I would further like to commend the coaches and academic support staffs for their contributions to the academic success of our student-athletes."
In all, 55 volleyball student-athletes from MEAC schools were named conference All-Academic honorees.
