VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the northern division for the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Nov. 20-22 at Coppin State.

UMES (22-6, 10-0 MEAC) will play fourth-seeded Norfolk State (8-21, 3-5) in the quarterfinals Friday at 1 p.m. in the Coppin Center. The Hawks defeated the Spartans twice during the regular season with 3-0 sweeps on Sept. 12 and Sept. 26, respectively.

Florida A&M earned the top seed in the southern division, while Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State were the second and third seeds. Delaware State, Morgan State and Howard secured the second through fourth seeds in the north.
